Smashbox “On The Rocks” lip gloss swatches and review

Nov 2013 026

As soon as I saw this lip gloss set I wanted it! Since it’s so close to Christmas and my birthday I decided to wait and not get it. As you can see I gave in and bought it (oops!). I got an email from Smashbox and they were having their Friends & Family sale with 25% off and I couldn’t pass it up. (On a side note, is it just me or does every cosmetics company have a Friends & Family sale these days??) Anyway, I placed my order and was so excited to try them all when they arrived. It is a set of 5 “Be Legendary” lip glosses (2 of the shades are limited edition). I really like the way it feels on my lips and the formula isn’t super sticky either. The doe foot applicator makes it easy to apply and I think these colors offer a nice hint of color. I was expecting a little more color pay off then these have, but they add a nice glossy tint (you’ll see what I mean when you see the pics!) to my lips that works for daytime and if I want to darken it up for evening I think these will work well if I add a lipstick underneath.

I apologize if the lighting is off in a few of the pictures.  I took them on different days and unfortunately it was a cloudy week!

The set comes with a shade for everyone.  Reds, neutrals and pinks are all covered, but they are not very pigmented.  Overall I have to say I was a little disappointed in this set, but I will wear them over darker lip sticks to add a glossy look.  The red shade that is called  “Legendary” and the darkest pink shade called “Azalea” showed up the most on my lips and the milky pink shade “Pout” was more of a glossy “my lips but better” shade.  Have you purchased this set?  If so I’d love to hear what you think of this set and what shade you like the best.

Have a great day.
